Tournament Recap:
It's been a few days, but I had an absolute blast at the tournament last Saturday. I can't wait to continue attending tournaments, and am very anxious to proceed with my very old desire to become a competitive wargamer (and it helps that I've been able to focus on a game worthwhile for competitive wargaming).
I went 3-2, although my last game ended up being the bye for the round. I must say, 5 rounds in a day is pretty rough, especially when at 10:30 at night it's time for the hour and a half ride back to my house. I buddied up on the traveling with a friend of mine, so that made it much more manageable.
My lists were a standard eKrueger Una-Boat list (with dual Stalkers), and a three heavy beast list with eKromac (Ghetorix, Stalker x2) - but four heavies since eKromac absolutely counts as a heavy himself.
I'll try to take more pictures in future tournaments for a better recap, but a simple summary is I beat Cryx and Retribution with eKrueger, my least played warcaster, and lost to Bradigus and Cygnar with eKromac, my most played warcaster. I made a crucial mistake against Cygnar, since I should have dropped eKrueger (but wanted to see how it'd go with eKromac).
With Cygnar, I saw Kraye with dual Stormwalls and some Sentinels, so it was a fun match for sure, but I lost by not choosing to really storm the board on my first, and my cautious approach made a poor attrition game for me. I should have just ran to the center and forced him to engage my lines as heavily as he could since I could reach him with all my beasts on my turn 2 - but instead I played it safe. And playing it safe kept my caster alive, which is always good, but got me a loss on scenario, which isn't good. Overall it was an important lesson to be learned. And it's nice to play games and opponent's outside my local meta for this reason in particular.
I also lost against Bradigus with eKromac, but I underestimated one board position he was able to swing. On the bottom of turn 2 I had killed 4 Woldwatchers and a shifting stone in a 2 heavy Bradigus variant, and he only had two shifting stones killed. This meant I had his Synergy cap at +4/+4, which was enough to take out a heavy or two, but meant the attrition game was in my favor. My mistake wasn't an easy one to see, but in hindsight could have been prevented pretty easily if I was playing more cautiously, which I should have at that point. He ported a Wold Warden into my backfield and boosted a rift, which enabled enough room for two heavy bases. He ported a Wold Guardian into my caster (who was on two fury for transfers). My mistake was not seeing the narrow opening Bradigus had access to with beatback and his feat. It was precision play at it's finest, since all the rolls and measurements had to work out, and they did, and two large bases got to my caster. eKromac had originally sat on 4 fury, but the Sentry Stones, which I totally didn't even think about, ported over and removed 2 of those. And then I didn't put up counter magic, which enabled all the hijinx to begin with. Ah well, hindsight, as I said. Lesson learned. That lesson? eKromac definitely has game into the slow Bradigus. If a three heavy variant becomes more popular, that decreases Bradigus' game against eKromac, since it'll require more of a Synergy chain to scare the Kromac heavies.
Already I'm seeing extremely important ways to shift the eKromac list, and I think I can cut down on a Stalker and add Bloodtrackers /w Nuala, and it'd be a huge boon. They do wonders with him, can reach out and deal with those trouble solos/units, can clear speed bumps, and auto-hitting charges with prey, snap shot, and reform could be quite miraculous. eKromac doesn't want to play against shooting lists, so Bloodtrackers should be nigh immortal if you play it correctly in list selection phase.
I'm not sure I want to change anything up in the eKrueger list yet. I feel there's dead weight, but it's a universal toolbox package, so it's hard to actually measure out what the dead weight is in the list anyways. It seems to vary. Having whatever tools are necessary in the match you need really speaks wonders in games. I play a pretty abstract game when I'm at the table, so an infinite toolbox means an infinite way to win.

Protectorate of Menoth
So my new army addition is the PoM. This is one of the last armies I've ever bought into in Warmahordes, and also the one I know the least amount - or knew the least amount, I've been doing a lot of research. I've wanted a Warmachine Faction for awhile, and have had a few, but nothing really stuck. It was down between Retribution or the Protectorate, and Ret was a bit too close to my Tohaa. I miss my zealous brothers of death and close combat awesome - the Black Templars - so the PoM is the next best thing, really. I've invested in a solid 50 point list to mess around with and give it a go, and hope to get to painting it once I finish painting my eKrueger and eKromac lists (a few more models to go!). I have a week off at the end of March, so if I can build and base, I can start painting them then.
