With ADR not favoring Circle Orboros during Season 3, it's nice to see my first Protectorate warcaster choice on ADR. It's also nice to see two other casters I hope to gain considerable experience with, pSevy and eKreoss, on it as well. With various tournaments on the horizon, and me being able to get at least weekly play in, I might end up with a bias towards the Protectorate of Menoth for awhile. It's fine with me, as I've been playing Hordes almost exclusively for awhile, and trying the Focus aspect of the game is intriguing to me.
This brings the choice down to pSevy or eKreoss? eKreoss would no doubt be in tier, while pSevy would provide a probably more competitive combination. I've only gotten in two games with eFeora, but between theorycrafting, overall Warmahordes experience, and 20 points to supplement specialists to fine tune, there are plenty of really solid options and strengths to swing her towards, leaving her with few weaknesses (which I'd see primarily as a heavy anti-fire or continuous effects Faction - so namely Trolls). So does pSevy or eKreoss, both with 20 points of specialists as well, work as the better combination? pSevy has more versatility, making everything better, and being able to handpick from a huge point reserve makes things pretty awesome. But eKreoss is most direct, and would be easier to manage - field a swarm of infantry dudes or bulky armor dudes as necessary, and attrition and weaponmaster it up like there's no tomorrow. Hmm.
So what would list building look like? I can't even really create an eFeora list without knowing my pairing choice, or rather I couldn't pick her specailists reserve. eKreoss would leave all the fantastic characters to do her bidding as necessary, making her a bit more versatile in whatever match-up I need her to be versatile in. pSevy would want some of those characters for his core list, but in the end would probably create a more well-rounded pairing option. If pSevy ends up partnering up with eFeora, I completely see him dominating my list choices, leaving eFeora to focus on whatever weakenesses he'd have, or that she'd fit better into (pushing her more towards Horde army pairings and the anti-Menoth match-up). While eKreoss would allow me to focus more on eFeora, and just break him out when I need to strong arm a match, or make the choice more difficult for my opponent. So I guess, at first glance, the pairing choice is easy. I want to rock eFeora hard, so eKreoss would be a really fun compliment. I own almost all the models, or have them incoming, so that really helps.
Let's see what some lists would look like:
eFeora 50-point List
--------------------
eFeora
- Judicator (Bonded)
- Hand of Judgment
- Reckoner
Choir (minimum)
Holy Zealots (max)
- Monolith Bearer
Vassal of Menoth
Vassal of Menoth
Wrack (3)
Eiryss, Angel of Retribution
Gorman di Wulfe
-----
That's the staple, and the list I'm building towards currently. Tons of fun to play so far, but lots to learn to make playing it easier. My first attempts at playing the list led to me trying to create some sort of epic Feat turn, when in retrospect anything I was trying to catch on fire was just dieing off to the actual damage rolls that caused the continuous fire in the first place. But at least that means it hits hard.
With a complete bench of specialist options, I'd probably have something like...
Temple Flameguard (max)
- Officer and Standard
Lady Aiyana and Master Holt
Rhupert Carvolo
Orin Midwinter
Recalimer
Covenant of Menoth
Something like that anyways. If the list doesn't need a third Warjack, dropping the Reckoner for a full unit of Temple Flameguard /w UA could provide a lot of support. Against Legion, I could easily swap out Gorman for Covenant or Rhupert to make things annoying. Or various combinations. Swapping out the Zealots for Temple Flameguard, and taking away the Reckoner for Aiyana and Holt, Orin, and Rhupert could make things interesting, too. It's a pick and choose kind of situation, but 20 points of specialists would do that.
To try to compliment that specific set up would be interesting, especially given my inexperience. I think I'd make an eKreoss list that would look something like:
eKreoss 50-point List, Tier 4, Crusaders of Sul
-----------------------------------------------
eKreoss
- Fire of Salvation
Knights Exemplar Seneschal
Knights Exemplar Seneschal
High Exemplar Gravus
Knights Exemplar
Knights Exemplar
Exemplar Errants (Max)
- Officer & Standard
Exemplar Vengers (Max)
Exemplar Bastions (Max)
Specialists:
Daughters of the Flame
Exemplar Bastion Senechal
Exemplar Errant Senechal
Exemplar Errant Senechal
Exemplar Bastions (max)
-----
It's fluffy, in tier, and gives me the bulk of the models not in my other list that I'd want painted up and looking all awesome. The specialists available to swap out for eKreoss really push his Tier into some really interesting directions. Not serious Knockdown or Stationary options? Gravus can turn into Daughters of the Flame or another Exemplar Bastion unit once three more points are freed. It feels like it enables skewing against whatever may have already been skewed against it. Difficulty killing mass infantry? Swap out the Vengers for max Bastions and the Bastion Senechal - that'll show'em. Deal with 22 hard to remove, in your face, weaponmasters while 10 heavy infantry that heal 1 an activation come shambling up for some late game terror. It's really interesting. It would be a ridiculously fun way to skew the game with ADR. I'm down and sold.
Between those two lists, I can make almost any list I want with fully painted models, barring Warcasters and Warjacks.
