....and it's coming real soon. I started this morning not knowing I'd get amazing news. A lot of people probably didn't realize what was coming. A surprise announcement for a new edition of Warmachine and Hordes by Privateer Press has turned my Facebook feed into a storm of pictures and has left me with nothing but excitement. Human Sphere N3 is coming next month, and then the month after is a brand new edition of Warmachine. Holy shit.
So what should we expect to see? I have no idea, really. The new edition promises to streamline certain areas of the rules, and make the game a bit more intuitive. That's good, because it's a clusterf*ck when you really start playing competitive. Starting over is an amazing thing, especially since I want to play competitively. Starting over from scratch with the entire Warmachine community will be very interesting indeed. I have no doubts the game will be even better than ever - that's something you can rely on from Privateer Press. The only question I have is where to go from here?
Infinity is progressing slowly, but nicely. I'm happy with my painting results, my army selection, and my terrain development. Even with tournaments and a new ruleset looming, with great changes for Tohaa on the horizon, I still find myself primarily a Warmachine player. Almost instantly my local meta has regained vigor in a matter of hours. I expect some who were looking to sell their armies to backpedal a bit, and at least wait to see what's on the horizon. But still, where do I go?
I love every army ever. And that's an understatement. I've played tons and tons of armies, and have wanted to play every army ever made +1. For which game? Well, all of them. Wargaming is my hobby, and I love my hobby. I love painting, creating, building, selling, playing, whatever and etc and you name it. But time is a resource that is not infinite. And even if it was, I'm sure I'd still manage to not have enough.
But let's focus on Warmachine. With new rules, new unit and card revisions, and brand new - well, everything, and no leaks or teasers on what they even are!, I'm just in a blur and a bit dumbfounded on where to go to. I have most of the Protectorate of Menoth. It's a ton, and a lot of it is unpainted (And secondhand, and unsalvagable). I have Circle, and most of what I own is painted, and I own all of the competitive stuff for the lists I want to play. But what is competitive with a new ruleset and new model profiles? Heh. That's all changing.
So I have to break it down simply, and I need to do it quickly. With Human Sphere and brand new mkiii Warmachine, there's no better opportunity to start back up with video battle reports. So fully painted is a must. And that means downsizing owned stuff, expanding what I have already, and narrowing my field of vision on what I need to paint. Brand new rules means entirely new models to explore. I should have a core painted, and I need to choose my army. It'll be hard to choose, but if I have to say, even with all the time and conversions I've put into Circle, Menoth is winning out. But even then, I need to weigh if I want to play Menoth over any other Faction.
I need to take a step back, breathe, and choose a Faction, with fresh eyes. I can assume the staple theme of each Warmachine/Horde army will stay the same. But there's no telling what each will end up like. With rules out the window currently, no idea if spell lists are changing, if Fury/Focus is becoming meshed into the same resource type (that'd make the most sense, actually), it's a barebones choice to make.
Continue Painting Circle and Sell Menoth?
Continue Painting Menoth and Sell Circle?
Start brand new, with fresh eyes, with a Faction I love the look of the most?
This question needs to be answered soon, so, regardless of choice, I can have at least a staple of models built and painted by June 12th, when the new rules hit for free online.
